A great show coming up at Sound of Music Studio is on Friday, June 14 with dynamic acoustic singer/songwriter Wayfarer, indie folk duo Sleepy Brother and Vermont five-piece indie rock outfit Alpenglow, who are about to release their new album “Old Hickory” and are set to open for Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, as well as Jim James of My Morning Jacket this year.

There’s no reason not to go to this show on Friday. Kishi Bashi had one of the catchiest albums last year , “151A” and Lake Street Dive blew me away when they played at Balliceaux last year. Get down to Brown’s Island and check both these acts out. Kishi Bashi goes on right at 6:30 p.m. so get there early.

Bungled and Botched at City Dogs

Ft. Lauderdale rock band Bungled and Botched will be performing at City Dogs on Main Street on Wednesday, June 12. They’re in the middle of their tour and since some of the members are originally from Richmond, they’re excited to be back at home playing.

Atlas Genius at the Canal Club

Australian indie-pop rockers Atlas Genius will be playing at the Canal Club on Wednesday, June 12. The band’s full length, “When It Was Now” came out in February and is filled with shimmering pop melodies that complement their warm, wistful spirit. Atlas Genius has gotten lots of love, from Entertainment Weekly to People Magazine, who called them a bliss of synth-pop. Take a listen to some tracks below.

Qugo Boss is a singer/songwriter from Richmond. His song “Psalms 0:55″ is his interpretation of a scripture from Hip Hop’s Bible. Check out the video below. The visuals were shot and edited by Charles Crandall Fenster.

Qugo Boss has a show coming up on June 26 at Aqua Lounge as part of Slapdash’s Epic Fest 2013.

New Tracks from Mayfair

I have been meaning to write something up about the new stuff coming from pop punk group Mayfair for quite some time now.

Reminiscent of bands like Jimmy Eat World, Relient K, Foo Fighters and many others, Mayfair became a favorite of mine early last year and I barely heard from them since, Luckily they’ve been hard at work on a new release that should be out within the year. Their music is incredibly catchy, full of a lot of energy and definitely makes you want to rock out.

Surfer Blood In-Store Performance at BK Music

To celebrate its upcoming album “Pythons,” Florida indie pop rockers Surfer Blood will be stopping by BK Music on Tuesday, June 11 to play an in-store performance followed by autograph signing.

“Pythons” is the group’s second album, coming three years after their breakout debut “Astro Coast.” Surfer Blood is on tour with Foals, but unfortunately they will not be playing in Richmond. The closest stop is Asheville, NC on June 12.
