Invisible’s “The New Obsolete” at 1708 Gallery
October 10, 2012
Yes, the Folk Festival is this weekend, but if you’re all folk-ed out and need a break, head over to 1708 Gallery for a very different type of show.
On Oct. 12-13, North Carolina-based collective Invisible will be offering two presentations of their current production, “The New Obsolete,” a mix of performance art and experimental music. The performance piece features the Selectric Piano, a typewriter that electromechanically controls a piano, a drip-driven drum machine, data projectors, Commodore64 monitors and multiple VHS and cassette decks utilizing the group’s folk library of sound and video samples.
It’s been described as “an exploded view of the strange romance between humans and technology…a love/hate drama set in a landscape of contraptions.” Check out the video below to see more.
