According to West of the Boulevard News, A new restaurant “Mellow Mushroom” will be coming soon to Carytown. The pizza chain applied for a Wine and Beer On Premises ABC License for 3012 West Cary Street (the current location for Plan 9) on Aug. 22.

This is very sad news, but unfortunately one that everyone has seen coming. Over the years, the space and selection has slowly been shrinking. Late last year, the store filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Not sure what the timetable is for this to happen. Plan 9 has not announced anything yet.

Needless to say, this is a heavy blow to music lovers. And I’m really upset that more people seem to be more excited about yet another restaurant, than upset that Richmond is losing a music treasure.

UPDATE: Apparently Plan 9 is looking to move to a smaller space and stay in Carytown.
