A Night of Garden Groovin’ with Andrew Bird

I don’t think there was a better way for Andrew Bird to celebrate his birthday than with an incredible night at Lewis Ginter. The weather was beautiful and the crowd was the perfect size. Mavis Staples began the night with a set of soul and dance songs that got everyone in the mood for fun. A lot of covers including Buffalo Springfield’s “For What Its Worth” and a bunch of great solo material. Andrew Bird himself even joined her on stage for a great performance of “The Weight.” Plus, Mavis loved Richmond and wanted to know where to get good spoonbread.

Then it was time for the man of the hour to take the stage and once he did, the crowd was silent. Everyone wanted to hear the music of Andrew Bird. I was not that familiar with his work but found his songs to be very enjoyable. And the man can whistle! Holy crap, can he whistle!

So here’s a bunch of Andrew Bird tracks to brighten up your day – just like my night was.
