Super Hi-Fi at Balliceaux

Get excited because Brooklyn’s live dub ensemble Super Hi-Fi will be coming to Balliceax on Friday, April 6 in support of their second 7” record being released on Record Store Day on April 21.

Led by bassist and composer Ezra Gale, Super Hi-Fi has been making waves in the New York City music scene with an innovative “Afro-Dub” sound that uses two trombones backed by guitar, bass and drums. With members of the bands Aphrodesia, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds, Rubblebucket, Dub is A Weapon and People’s Champs, the group is something of a New York supergroup, but the sound the band generates- a mix of Jamaican dub, afrobeat and hard-edged funk rock- is all its own. “Single Payer,” the band’s first release, prompted Afropop Worldwide to describe it as “a Skatalites track co-opted by King Dubby” while overseas the French music site Paris DJ’s called it “incredible afro-dub greatness.
