WRIR Turns 6!
February 3, 2011
Richmond’s independent radio station WRIR celebrates its sixth birthday at the Renaissance Conference Center on Friday, Feb. 4 with a party featuring DJs, live bands, comedians, birthday cake and more.
This year, the evening begins with Native American drum and dance ensemble Youghtanund. Featured bands on the main stage include The Diamond Center, Marionette, Ultra Dolphins and Pennyshaker (this will be their final performance as a band). A hip hop showcase curated by Black Liquid and featuring local artists Artik Phreeze, Doethepaperboy, Ms. Proper, Official Freeze, Skurban Barz Ent will be on the second stage, along with Spirit Wind (Native American flute players), Richmond Youth Jazz Guild, Turnstyle Soundsystem, WRIR DJs, and stand-up comedy performances from Dave Garland, Joe Hafkey, and John Reaves.
This party usually pulls out all the stops and is definitely a huge event. Plus, it supports WRIR and helps them bring all the local music and programming to RVA’s ears.
Pennyshaker – Jenny Jane
The Diamond Center – Dos Fridas
Ultra Dolphins – The Transgressor
